Born January
29th, 1962 in Buffalo, New York. Jeff Taylor
was given a keyboard at a very young age,
he proceeded to take it completely apart
and put it back together before going on
to learn to play the instrument. He later
taught himself to play Guitar, Bass, Drums
and anything else he could get his hands
on. Encouraged by his progress the young
musician set out to follow his heart and
his dreams. He formed many bands throughout
High School, acted in plays and pursued
every avenue that involved production.
After High School he Joined the U.S. Air
Force as a KC135 boom operator, flying all
over the world lying face down in a glass
pod in the rear of the giant aircraft, refueling
Fighter jets in mid air, an amazing experience
that further opened his mind to the possibilities
of creating and dreaming. “I would
write songs and poems while flying over
the Bermuda triangle or the Pyramids of
Egypt, what a rush.”
After an honorable discharge, Jeff relocated
to New York City and rented a small apartment
on The Lower East side. I loved the Village,
its musicians, actors; everything about
it was a pleasure to my senses. Spike Lee
filmed “She’s gotta have it”
in Brooklyn and one of my musician friends
from Fort Greene said, let’s go and
watch. “On this day I was mesmerized
by the Director, the Camera, the blocking,
I was in love”. Music however, was
his first love and there were goals to accomplish
in music, movies & film would have to
wait.
New technological advances in music production
made for plenty of opportunities for the
tech savvy, musician, and eventually brought
him to the attention of the legendary production
Duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis of Minneapolis
Flyte Tyme Productions. Jeff’s command
of the studio led to an 8 year tenure of
programming drums, playing, singing and
engineering on albums by some of the duo’s
biggest hit artists including,
Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, BoyzIIMen,
Karyn White, Patti Labelle, Barry White,
New Edition, The Sounds of Blackness, Mint
Condition, and many more.
His interest and love of film stayed with
him as he began to seek production work
on
Movie Soundtracks. He would eventually receive
engineering or sound credit on some of the
following albums, The Apostle, Money Train,
Down in the Delta, Low Down Dirty Shame,
Beverly Hills Cop III, Jason’s Lyric,
Posse, Panther, Kazamm, Good Burger and
Woo.
Never one to rest on his accomplishments,
Jeff went independent of Flyte Tyme in 2000
in order to gain some real world experience
outside of the nest. He has never looked
back. In dealing with big budget albums
and Record labels, he realized how much
he wanted to return to a more fun and creatively
rewarding style of working and this meant
combining his love for music and film. “These
days I spend my time screenwriting, songwriting,
directing, and shooting 24p with a sexy
Steadicam Mini”. “This new chapter
is most exciting, because it’s about
being in love with what you do all over
again”. Currently shooting his first
Full Length Feature film in 24p DV Jeff
continues to embrace the new technology
with his keen eye for what looks and sounds
good, recording into the future.
